New Pet Peeve
I am likely to want to bite your head off if you refer to a movie with a female lead as a “chick flick.” When I discuss a movie I refer to the movie based on its merits. I think the movie either sucks or is great for various reasons. A movie with a strong male lead can suck or be awesome and a movie with a strong female lead can suck or be awesome. So when you dismiss a movie based on the fact that it has a strong female lead or a plot you consider to be overly feminine you have said absolutely nothing about the movie, but you have said something about yourself. You have just told me that you are comfortable with judging a movie based on gender and themes falsely assiociated with gender (relationships and love are not feminine themes, dumbass, they are human themes) and not based on the quality of the movie. I have never once in my life said “I don’t want to see that movie because it’s for guys.” I consider each movie based on my personal taste and my personal taste is not based on my gender. So why the hell do men and women do this ALL the time when they are dismissive of a movie because it is a “chick flick”?
